Black Friday
Happy Weekend, Dear Readers!
For years, I have refused to take part in the Black Friday shopping madness. The crowds are just too much for me to handle. And this year was no exception.
Except, I got asked on a date, by a very handsome, very intelligent six-year-old.
Early this morning, my son came into my room. “Mommy,” he whispered. “Daddy’s still asleep. Let’s go on a breakfast date, just me and you.”
Well, my heart melted. Who could turn down such an invitation? So I got up, got dressed for a date, curled my hair and applied my lipstick just so. Then, my date picked me up at my bedroom door and escorted me to the car. (I drove on this date, as he would have had a little trouble seeing over the steering wheel.)
Leaving our subdivision, I asked, “Where would you like to go?”
“How about McDonald’s?” he said.
So, I steered toward McDonald’s. But then, he said, “Oh, no, Mommy, not this McDonald’s. I want to go to the McDonald’s that’s inside the Wal-Mart!”
Well, I was so enamored with my date that I totally forgot it was Black Friday. I forgot until I was in Wal-Mart, in the middle of a crowd that is normally unheard of for that time of morning. And then, I remembered.
I headed toward the McDonald’s, but my date, with his arm linked through mine, headed for the toy department. “Mommy, let’s just make a quick stop over here, first.”
So there we were, in the middle of the mad toy rush, in the middle of a crowded Wal-Mart, in the middle of the Black Friday craziness. And yes, before all was said and done, I had an armload of merchandise.
So, I ask you, dear readers. Because I know you’ll tell me the truth.
Have I been snookered by a six-year-old?
Blessings to you all!

Super six year old.
Our Black Friday is of a different nature as you know by the news.
Seems the worst is over.

Well, so far, the vote seems to be that I was snookered. But, I must admit, it was kind of fun!
Amrita, I’m so sorry for all that is going on over in your part of the world. Am praying.

You have one smart kid!
Sad note on black Friday. A Wal-mart Employee was trampled to death in New York today during Black Friday.

Ha ha ha! Love this post, Renae! I have made the firm unchangeable rule that I do not go shopping — at all — the day after Thanksgiving. People like me just can’t help the economy at all, I’m afraid! But I think I could have been talked out of my firm stand by just such a 6-year-old!

Hi Thomas! Yes, I read about that on my Yahoo page. What a tragedy. My prayers go out to his family.
And yes, Jeanette, this particular 6 year-old has a very persuasive way about him . . .

Renae, this is hilarious
What a clever little guy you’ve got
I’m like you, though — I always avoid the Black Friday shopping experience. Wonder if this will start a new tradition for you?

Merry Christmas to you, Jean and Cheryl! Cheryl, I don’t know . . . I can’t imagine myself doing that on purpose! Then again, if I have such an adorable escort, maybe . . .
